Graphic Design is simply "visual communication" - just about everything around you has graphic design with it. Some examples would be the t-shirts from Aeropostale in the mall are designed by graphic designers; food packaging at fast food restaurants and in the grocery stores are designed by designers; television commercials and sitcoms have designers on staff; movie/film production companies in Hollywood have graphic designers creating set designs and graphics for the movie; and even when you go to the doctor for a checkup, you will see informational pamphlets on the counter about healthcare, all designed by graphic designers.
In this career, you will work with other creative professionals to solve a problem: communicate a message to the end user-visually!
Application Information
For the adult/post-secondary program, students need to apply early to guarantee admission into the Graphic Design program. Applications are accepted throughout the year until July 15 for the upcoming school year.
Priority is given to applicants that have completed the program as a high school student. Students completing the program as a high school student must be recommended by the instructor in order to apply for the adult/post-secondary program.
All graduating adult/post-secondary adults are required to produce a portfolio for submission for the Advisory Review. This review is in the student's best interest and will advise the student in areas of strengths and weaknesses. The portfolio will be used for the student to gain employment and/or entry into a 2- or 4-year college degree program.
