Agricultural Education is a 4-year program for students that teaches the science and technology to manage and use resources to provide food for a growing population. Through theses courses, agricultural educators teach students a wide variety of skills, including science, math, communications, leadership, management and technology. Student also have the opportunity to learn leadership and personal development through membership in Future Farmers of America (FFA).

Agricultural education is delivered through three interconnected components:

  • Classroom or laboratory instruction.
  • Experiential learning--learning experiences that usually take place outside of the classroom, supervised by the agricultural instructor.
  • Leadership education--delivered through student organizations such as the National FFA Organization.

This is my 26th year teaching Agriculture Education. I have been married to a nurse for as long as I have been teaching and we have two grown kids. We are excitedly expecting our first grandchild in April. I was raised around Dryland wheat and Alfalfa hay early on. After receiving my Agriculture Education teaching degree from Oklahoma State University, I found myself working as a horticulturist for several years. My teaching career started in St Louis, chartering a FFA program at the Career Academy. From there, I moved to Vienna for seven years and have now been teaching over a decade in Rolla. I feel incredibly blessed to have a career working with not just the young people in agriculture, but with my fellow agriculture instructors as well. I thoroughly enjoy my job and highly recommend the Agriculture Education field.
